ABSTRACT
Pulmonary tuberculosis is a direct infectious disease caused by mycobacteria tuberculosis, if the treatment is delayed it can cause death. The importance of diagnosis in the treatment of tuberculosis is decisive in starting anti-tuberculosis treatment on time and in a not too long time so that an accurate tool is used to diagnose tuberculosis. HRCT is very accurate and fast in helping to diagnose cases of tuberculosis. Tuberculosis which requires accurate diagnosis immediately encourages the authors to explore the role of High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) in diagnosing cases of pulmonary tuberculosis and compare it with a negative acid-fast bacillus (AFB) examination. The purpose of this study To determine the role of HRCT examination in diagnosing tuberculosis based on a literature review.
This type of research uses descriptive research with a literature review approach. This research was conducted by collecting scientific articles from such as Google Scholar, Pubme, Proquest, Elsevier, and Springerlink, which were published in 2010-2020 with the keywords used CT-Thorax, High Resolution Computed Tomography, Pulmonary Tuberculosis.
The result of this study is that the role of High Resolution Computed Tomography in diagnosing cases of pulmonary tuberculosis can show micronodules, air space consolidation, centribular nodules or branching nodules by showing the spread of endobronchial infection, lymphadenopathy and pleural effusion which are characteristic of pulmonary tuberculosis. HRCT can help separate patients at risk for active pulmonary tuberculosis who have negative smear results and can identify other diseases that are difficult to distinguish from tuberculosis so that it can be recommended when routine diagnostic measures such as chest X-rays and sputum cultures produce inconclusive results.
