ABSTRACT

Diagnosis in multiple sclerosis cases using MRI modalities is very dependent on selecting the right sequence, one of which is the FLAIR sequence. This sequence plays an important role in the case of MS (multiple sclerosis). FLAIR can sensitively detect subarachnoid hemorrhage and lesions. However, if there are CSF artifacts it can lead to false diagnostic findings. The latest version has been introduced recently namely 3D FLAIR which has the advantage of being thinner and allows multiplanar capabilities. However, 3D FLAIR sequences have not been used in routine MRI diagnostic procedures for multiple sclerosis brain cases. Therefore, an assessment of the role of FLAIR 3D sequences in Multiple Sclerosis was carried out.
The type of research used is descriptive research with a literature study approach. This study was conducted to determine the MRI Brain examination procedure in Multiple Sclerosis cases and to determine the role of the sequence Three Dimentional Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery in Multiple Sclerosis cases. Literature is carried out through article searches in research journal databases, internet searches and scientific articles. Sources for this journal are from Springer, AJNR, Pubmed. with the keyword 3D FLAIR, MRI Brain, Multiple Sclerosis.
The results obtained were the MRI Brain examination procedure in MS cases carried out with patient preparation and positioning in general MRI brain. And the role of FLAIR 3D Sequence in the case of multiple sclerosis plays an important role relevant to the diagnosis and clinical investigation of MS such as detecting more lesions, superior image quality with high SNR and CNR values, which is very good at detecting lesions in MS compared to other sequences (PD, T2WI, 3D-DIR, TSE, T2WI) multi-planar reform capability, and can be combined with compressed sensing (CS) acceleration techniques that reduce the acquisition time 27% of normal time.
