LITERATURE REVIEW : HUBUNGAN SERAT TERHADAP PENURUNAN TEKANAN DARAH SISTOLIK DAN DIASTOLIK

Background: Increased levels of systolic and diastolic blood pressure is a factor in occurrence of cardiovascular disease.The lack of fiber consumption than its required in a day can cause high blood pressure levels.
Objective: To review the literature that is related to the correlation of fiber intake to the decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Methods: The literature review method uses journals, textbooks, and articles sourced from electronic databases such as MEDLINE, Elsevier (SCOPUS), Pubmed, and WHO with the keywords fiber, blood pressure in the 2015-2020 publication period. Data that has been collected systematically, studied the similarities and differences between the literature and discussed in detail with the criteria of relevant articles on the topic of literature review and study articles used were observational research.
Results: A total of 6 studies (4 cross-sectional and 2 cohorts) were included in the analysis. The results showed that fiber intake ≥ 14 g / day decreased systolic blood pressure to 115.9 mmHg (p value = 0.016) and diastolic 73.0 (p value = 0.009). Decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure with insoluble fiber by 1.69 mmHg and 0.84 mmHg.
Conclusion: Dietary fiber intake can lower blood pressure.
