MRI of knee joint use 3 standard slices, that are: sagittal, coronal, and axial. On standard sagittal slices, the anatomy and pathological images of knee joint, especially the cruciate ligament, are less obvious. This is due to the standard sagittal slices have a fairly low diagnostic accuracy value, so that many diagnostic difficulties occurs.The purpose of this study was to determine the role of oblique sagittal slices in MRI knee joint with T2WI SPAIR sequence.
This type of research is a descriptive study with Literature Review. The data base used in this literature review is Springer Open, Scientific Research An Academic Publisher, Sciendo, JimeD, and JML.The sources will be processed in tabular form and analyzed descriptively.
There are 5 journal articles used, 3 journals about oblique sagittal slices, and 2 journals about T2WI SPAIR sequences. From five journals, it was concluded that the role of oblique sagittal slices in MRI of knee joint with T2WI SPAIR sequences has several advantages, that are : anatomy of knee joint especially cruciate ligament are more visible compared to standard sagittal. T2WI SPAIR sequence also clarifies ligaments, joint capsules, and cartilages of knee joint compared to previous fat suppression techniques. In addition, oblique sagittal slices also have high sensitivity and specificity values compared to standard sagittal, thus increasing the diagnostic accuracy of MRI knee joint. In conclusion, oblique sagittal slice is very well used in MRI of knee joint with T2WI SPAIR sequence because it can clearly display the anatomy and pathology of knee joint, especially the cruciate ligament.
