The brain is a major part of the human body. One of the diseases that is harmful to the brain is tumor. In a contrast brain MRI examination in case of a brain tumor one of the sequences used is 3D-Fast Spoiled Gradient Echo using T1-weighted. Changes in slice thickness affect the number of signals and sharpness. In this study aims to determine the influence of variations in slice thickness to image quality in MRI brain post in contrast to the axial wedge sequence 3DT1-FSPGR in case of brain tumor.
This research uses experimental research with a descriptive analysis of proportions. Performed at Dr. Moewardi MRI GE 1.5 Teska with variations of slice thickness 0.8 mm, 1.2 mm, 1.6 mm against 2 patients with clinical brain tumor. The image results in gray matter, white matter and tumor lesions are measured SNR and CNR measurements, then the data in review with a thorough about the advantages and disadvantages of each variation of slice thickness based on the literature used.
The results in this research have improved image quality of each slice thickness variation. The thicker slice thickness SNR and CNR are generated the higher and the faster the scan time,. As for the thinner the slice thickness SNR and CNR are generated lower, and the scan time is getting longer. There was an increase in the value of the SNR and CNR lesions of the tumor on variations of the slice thickness of 0.8 mm and 1.2 mm, but the variation in the slice thickness 1.6 mm decreased.
