The protocol for cervical MRI examination are sagittal / coronal T1, sagittal T2 and axial/ obliq T1 / T2. The Multiecho Fast Field Echo (MFFE) sequence has an important role in MRI examination in cases of cervical root syndrome (CRS). This sequence is able to provide a ratio that is superior to T1 and T2 sequences. The purpose of this research is to explain the procedure of cervical MRI examination in the case of cervical root syndrome and find out diagnostic information by adding MFFE sequences.
This research is a descriptive qualitative study with a literature review method. Data obtained by identifying problems then looking for keywords namely MRI cervical, MFFE, OPLL and MS. LIteratur review is done through journal search engine searches, such as: Researchgate, Google Scholar, American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), Sciencedirect and Springer. The journals collected are reduced based on inclusion criteria to obtain 5 relevant journals and then analyzed using a descriptive method so that it can answer the objectives to be drawn conclusions.
The procedure for cervical MRI examination in CRS cases is Removing all metals in the patient's body, using MRI planes, cervical coil, fixation tools and earplugs, supine headfirst patient position, central point as high as C3-C4, sequences used are axial and sagittal T1, axial and sagittal T2, axial and sagittal MFFE. The MFFE image is able to show a good contrast between OPLL with the disc and OPLL with CSF. MFFE sequences are able to detect spinal cord lesions.
The cervical MRI examination procedure in CRS cases has similarities with the cervical MRI procedure in general. MFFE's image is very accurate in diagnosing the presence of OPLL and DO in OPLL cases. MFFE also has a high sensitivity in detecting lesions and is able to reduce artifacts in cases of multiple sclerosis
