HUBUNGAN pH SALIVA TERHADAP KONDISI DMF-T PADA PENDERITA DIABETES MELLITUS

Salivary pH is a degree measure of acidity saliva. Low salivary pH is caused by decreased rate of salivary secretion. This supports the acidic state of the mouth and integrated with the acid caused by plaque bacteria when sugar metabolism, resulting in dental caries. The dental caries is measured using the DMF-T index. Decreased salivary secretion and increased dental caries is one of the signs and symptoms of diabetes mellitus. The research purposes is to determine the relationship of salivary pH to DMF-T conditions in patients with diabetes mellitus.
The type of research is analytic survey method, with research design is cross sectional. The research sample is 45 respondents with diabetes mellitus taken by saturated sampling technique. Respondents fill out informed consent as proof of willingness, and they are asked to fast and not smoke to men for the next 1 hour. The next dental examination with the DMF-T index and write the results on the examination sheet. After 1 hour of fasting, respondents were asked to spit on the salivary glass. Then, salivary pH check using a pH strip and write results on the examination sheet. Data analysis uses univariate and bivariate analysis, and the research data analyzed with pearson test.
Based on pearson test analysis, the results show that the relationship of salivary pH to DMF-T conditions in patients with diabetes mellitus was p = 0,026, which means that the value is < 0.05.
The conclusion is significant correlation between salivary pH and DMF-T in patients with diabetes mellitus.It is recommended that the public, especially patients with diabetes mellitus to drink often mineral water and always check their teeth at least every 6 months, so that the incidence of dental caries can be overcome immediately.
