Background: Treatment of multiple myeloma parietal uses several methods including medication, bone marrow transplantation, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. Radiation therapy that is given can be in the form of external radiation. The type of light that is often used in the medical world is using X-rays (photons), gamma and electrons. In the case of multiple myeloma that is often used, namely photon and electron rays. Photon rays are used for cancer position that is far from the surface of the skin and electrons are used if the position of the cancer is on the surface of the skin or about 5 cm from the surface of the skin. Electron radiation uses 2 methods of dosing which are a single dose and fractionation.
Method: The type of research conducted in this study used a type of qualitative research with a case study approach, researchers conducted observations, in-depth interviews and documentation of data on electron radiation therapy in the case of Multiple Myeloma Parietal in Radiology Installation Unit, Dr. Sardjito Yogyakarta Hospital.
Results: The results of the study showed that the multiple myeloma parietal radiotherapy procedure using electron radiation began with patients coming in with a reference letter and carrying out supporting examination, then examined by a specialist radiation oncology for radiotherapy planning, after which simulator scheduling, treatment planning system, verification of data, and external radiation from the linac plane using electron radiation. The reason for choosing this technique is because based on its nature electrons are used for superficial area because the electron radiation range is short and the energy can be adjusted according to the depth of the tumor. The reason for doing the 2 Gy fraction with a total dose of 40 Gy is to reduce more side effects.
