The use of b value expected to increase the diffusion signal, increasing the signal can also increase the SNR and increase the b value will also increase the noise. The preliminary study that the authors performed on several hospitals used a variation of b value of 800 s/mm2 until 1000 s/mm2. The use of this variation of b value depends on the settings of each tool. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the difference between SNR and anatomical information of proximate axial bri MRI on the sequence of diffusion weighted image with variation of b value to know the optimal b value variation producing informative image.
This research was quantitative research with experimental approach which is used 10 volunteers. The data are 40 MRI prostate image pieces of axial sequence of diffusion weighted image. That images are given ROI (Region of Interest) to measure SNR. Assessment of anatomical information data colected by 2 radiologists. The analysis was done by Friedman test to see the difference of the whole data and to see the highest mean rank then continued Wilcoxon test to see the difference between each variation of b value.
The results showed that there was a difference of SNR MRI of the prostate of axial pieces on the sequence of diffusion weighted image with variation of b value and there was difference anatomical information of prostate MRI on the sequence of diffusion weighted image with variation of b value with significance level of p value 0,001. The use of the b value 800 s/mm2 was the optimal variation to displaying anatomy with the mean value of 3.90 and b value 1400 s/mm2 was the optimal variation to displaying quality image with the mean value of 4.00.
