Background - Hypertension is a condition where the systolic blood pressure is more than 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure is more than 90 mmHg (Digiulio and Jackson, 2014). The prevalence of hypertension cases in Central Java Province in 2015 was 344,033 (17.74%). Hypertension still occupies the largest proportion of all reported PTM that is equal to 57,87% (Central Java Health Service, 2015). Hypertension is a disease classified as incurable, requiring treatment to control blood pressure (Irwan, 2016). The impact of hypertension if not treated promptly can lead to a fatal abnormality. Seeing the incidence and impact of hypertension, it is necessary to do the management of hypertension which consists of the implementation of Benson relaxation techniques and progressive muscle relaxants that can be done independently and no side effects.
Purpose - This study aims to determine the differences in the effectiveness of Benson relaxation techniques and progressive muscle relaxation on blood pressure in essential hypertensive patients at RSUD Ungaran.
Method - This type of research is a quantitative research with a quasy experimental research design using a two group pre-test-post-test design approach. The sampling technique used in this study is consecutive sampling (sequential). The number of samples required for group A (Benson relaxation technique) was 17 respondents and group B (progressive muscle relaxation) was 17 respondents.
