Descriptive research has been carried out by case studying approachment about external radiotherapy procedure of thyroid cancer with mass malignant thyroid in radiotherapy installation facility of RSUD Dr. MOewardi Surakarta. The main purpose of this research is knowing the proper external radiotherapy procedure of thyroid cancer with mass malignant thyroid, the aim of two step exposure treatment and the reason of using AP-PA direct exposure method
This kind of research is descriptive by case studying approach conducted by observation, interview which is radiation oncology doctor, radiographer and medical physicist. Beside that, the source of this study are taken from patient treatment medical record, simulator imaging result, treatment planning system data and patient exposure data. Data analyzing is using interactive model.
The result of this research showed that external radiotherapy of thyroid cancer with mass malignant thyroid in radiotherapy installation facility of RSUD Dr. Moewardi Surakarta is using conventional simulator, teletherapy Cobalt-60 machine by two step exposure technique. The first step is using AP-PA direct exposure method and the second step are using AP supraclvicula and right-left lateral exposure method. The reason of using 2 step exposure method is optimizing therapeutic ratio, than the aim of using AP-PA direct exposure of this technique is dose maximizing on mass target.
