PERUBAHAN pH SALIVA SETELAH BERSIWAK DAN MENYIKAT GIGI PADA SANTRI SMA TRENSAINS MUHAMMADIYAH SRAGEN TAHUN 2017

ABSTRACT
Brushing your teeth is an important routine in maintaining healthy teeth and mouths of bacteria and food residues that are attached by using a toothbrush. As for traditional toothbrushing is using siwak wood. Bersiwak is the use of siwak rod (Salvadora Persica) to clean teeth and eliminate bad breath. Siwak wod containing essential oils serves to increas salivary buffer capasity. Hygiene brushing itself is the basis of the velocity of salivary secretions to neutralize salivary pH. This study aims to determine the differences in saliva acidity between bersiwak and brushing teeh at High School Students Trensains Muhammadiyah Sragen.
This experimental quasi-type study with a pretest-postest one grup design was not included in the control group. The sample of this study using 40 students with 2 treatment that is toothbrushing and bersiwak. The study was conducted for 2 days. Data analysis used is descriptive quantitative.
The result showed that there was a change of saliva pH between toothbrush by brushing. Saliva pH before and after cognate with acid to neutral category, whereas for pre and post brushing treatment there is no change of category, the beginning before brushing is acid and after brushing is acid too. The average before bersiwak is equal to 6.62 with the criteria of acid, while after bersiwak equal to 6.93 with neutral criterion. The average before brushing is 6.5 and after brushing is 6.7. it is advisable for the santri to get counseling how to brush their teeth properly and besides daily tooth brushing activity at least 2 times the students are encouraged to add bersiwak in certain times.
