Tree tomato is a kind of fruit which rich in essential nutrients such as vitamins, protein, fiber, it has many benefits for the body, oral and dental health. Tree tomatoes contain high vitamin C so it tends to be sour where its content and taste can affect the pH degree of salivary in the oral cavity. After consuming the tree tomato juice, there arise varied flavor changes in the oral cavity ranging from slightly acid to acid. The purpose of this research was to determine whether there was influence of tree tomato juice consumption to salivary pH change.
The type of this research is descriptive quantitative, the design of this research using pretest and posttest design. Sampling technique is random sampling. The sample in this research is the 1st level students of Dental Health Nursing Poltekkes Kemenkes Semarang which amounted to 22, the sample was taken from 20% of the population which amounted to 109 students. The sample was divided into 2 groups i.e. 11 people consumed tree tomato juice and 11 people as control group consume water.
The results showed that there was a change of salivary pH before and after treatment. The average difference between salivary pH before and after consuming tree tomato juice was 0.17 with a tendency to decrease saliva pH towards acid but still under basic criteria. While average saliva pH before and after consuming water equal to 0,06 with tendency to decrease saliva pH with base criterion. Suggestion for people who like to consume tree tomato juice is recommended not too often consume the tree tomato juice as it tends to lower salivary pH. Decreased salivary pH may cause cavities.
