Pregnancy process, delivery, postpartum is normal process. In these processes, many mothers experience the health issue which can increase the amount of infant morbidity and mortality. The success of health care and development program is measured from the Maternal Mortality Rate (AKI) and Infant Mortality Rate (AKB). A midwife, who serves the health of mothers and infants, must give continuity midwifery care to the patients.
This research used a case study design of midwifery process approach with varney’s seven steps and SOAP documentation.
The result of this study obtained diagnosis G2P1A0 gestational age 36 weeks and 6 days physiological pregnancy, psychological delivery followed by psychological postpartum period, family planning period, and psychological newborn baby period.
In the pregnancy care, there was an asymmetry between theory and practice which is the antenatal care was done with 10 T program. In the delivery care, there were several asymmetry between the theory and the practice although it was carried out 58 steps of normal delivery care such as giving an infus with RL without an indication, didn’t do vulva hygiene, and didn’t put 1/3 of cloth under the mother’s bottom. In the newborn baby’s, postpartum, and family planning period, there wasn’t asymmetry between the theory and practice.
The result of this case study can be concluded that there was asymmetry between the theory and practice in applying comprehensive midwifery care in the field. The asymmetry was found on the planning and carrying out the care. Advice for the practical location is to do antenatal and delivery care based on theory that match with latest evidence based.
