Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is an advanced and noninvasive method of examination on MRI that is used to measure the chemical
value of tissues and the variation of lesions. There are two localizers in MRS,
namely single voxel and multi voxel. The aim of this study was to determine the
role of the single voxel and multi voxel localizer methods in brain MRS
examination to evaluate tumor characteristics
This type of research is a qualitative study of literature studies. Data was
collected from April to May 2020 through Google Scholar, PubMed, and Google
with the keywords Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS), Single Voxel, Multi
Voxel and Brain Tumors using literature documentation methods and journals
used were 8 journals, data analysis was done descriptively by making narratives
and tabulations of highly relevant publication and journal manuscripts and then
comparing them with theories so that conclusions and suggestions can be drawn.
Research results based on literature studies show that for single voxel
localizers with minimum voxel size it is useful to determine the type and grade of
tumors, used in tumors that are difficult to reach, for example in the pituitary area
and early detection of infant brain injury associated with increasing the ratio of
Cholin / Creatine . Then, multi-voxel localization can be used in tumors with wide
areas such as Glioblastoma (GBM), meningioma, and medulloblastoma tumors.
In multi-voxel localization GBM tumors produce high spectrum and ratio values
such as pCho / Cr, pCho / NAA, and NAA / Cr which are directly compared to
normal areas. Then multi-voxel localization can be used to determine the type
and grade of glioma tumors, because comprehensive information can be
obtained.
