- Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by impaired insulin producing in the body, so that the process of metabolic in the body is disturbed and result in the Diet does not enter into the organs of the organs of the body. The eating disorders are due to a lack of knowledge coupled with hereditary factors, which can be one of the factors could occur to his DM. Diet is an important component in the management of DM and therefore the lack of knowledge of the patient and family with diabetes resulted in the blood sugar is not balanced and the risk of complications in DM is great. The DM is also a common diseases found in the community. Data in Pekalongan City shows the numbers 22.743 soul suffering from Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM) and the 2008 soul suffering from Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM) with the most common cause because of the environment that are less knowledge.
Purpose : Improve the knowledge in accordance with the condition of the patient is at this time that the need for calories corresponding to the condition of patients with DM. In addition so that more people understand so that it can avoid complications and prevent the DM
Methods : sampling is used with the technique of puposive sampling with two subjects, where the set of samples by selecting the samples in the population in accordance with the criteria.
Results : Based on a case study in family Tn. F and Tn. A found a lack of knowledge about the diet DM and given health education during the 3 days. With the results based on after implementation of the specialized health education about appropriate diet with caloric needs in patients with DM, with a Family Tn. F and Tn. A can understand well and will carry it out daily in accordance with dining menu that has been created.
Conclusion : Among patients Ny. P and Ny. M after receiving health education about diet on diabetic patients there are no gaps between the patient Ny. P and Ny. M and equally already know the diet DM as a preventive so that the blood sugar does not rise again.
