KOMPRES LIDAH BUAYA SEBAGAI ALTERNATIF PENANGANAN BALITA DEMAM PADA LAYANAN KEBIDANAN

Background: Fever is a circumstance when the body temperature is more than 37°C. Fever has positive and negative impacts. Midwife has an authority in dealing with fever by giving physical therapy in the form of compress for fever which is not accompanied by severe dehydration, loss of consciousness or a history of febrile seizures. However, warm compress is less impractical so that a replacement compress by using Aloe Vera which contains saponins that may cause vasodilation in the skin so as to accelerate body heat emitting.
Objective: To prove the use of Aloe Vera compress as an alternative treatment for fever on under five children in midwifery service.
Methods: This was a quantitative study with pretest posttest control group design. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Data analysis used T test.
Results: The mean of decrease in body temperature with Aloe Vera compress (1.435) was higher than the mean of decrease in body temperature with warm compress (1.085). Aloe Vera compress (15 min) was more quickly to achieve normal temperature compared to applying warm compress (20 min). The highest difference of the decrease in body temperature between the warm compress and aloe Vera compress groups to achieve normal temperature occurred in the 15th minute after the intervention (0,705°C). There was a significant difference between the difference mean between warm compress and Aloe Vera compress (p-value 0.013
