PROSEDUR PEMERIKSAAN ESOFAGOGRAFI PADA PENDERITA DISFAGIA DI INSTALASI RADIOLOGI RSUD Dr. H. SOEWONDO KENDAL

Esophagographic examination procedures in dysphagia patients in Radiology Installation of RSUD dr. H. Soewondo Kendal was performed using a barium sulfate contrast medium in a ratio of 1: 1. Using pre-contrast AP and lateral projection radiographs, then post-contrast AP, Lateral and LPO projection contrast radiographs. This is different according to Bontrager (2014) taking pre-contrast radiographs for oesophagographic examination using AP projections. In addition, according to Lampignano and Kendrick (2018) on the esophagographic examination of post contrast radiographs using AP, Lateral, RAO, and LAO projections. This study aims to determine the procedure for examining oesophagography in dysphagia patients, the reasons for taking Lateral projection contrast radiographs and post contrast LPO projection radiographs, and the reason for using only a single contrast medium.
This type of research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. The data collection was carried out from February to April 2020 at the Radiology Installation of RSUD dr. H. Soewondo Kendal. The subjects of this study were patients in patients with dysphagia, while the object of this study was the examination of esophagography. Methods of data collection by observation, interviews, and study documentation. Data analysis was performed using an interactive model by open coding.
The results showed the procedure of oesophagographic examination was carried out using a barium sulfate contrast medium with a ratio of 1: 1. The examination was carried out without special preparation. Radiographs used include pre contrast AP and Lateral projections, then post contrast AP, Lateral, and LPO. Reasons for taking Lateral projection contrast radiographs to see the patient's preparation and determine the appropriate exposure factor. In addition lateral projections are also useful to see abnormalities that can be seen without contrast in the esophagus, whereas post contrast LPO projections are used to provide comfort to the patient and radiographers can evaluate the patient when the patient swallows the contrast media. Meanwhile the reason for using a single contrast medium is because a single contrast view is more sensitive than a double contrast technique to show distal esophageal rings and strictures and can even detect fine areas of narrowing that are missed in double contrast or endoscopy.
