Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition in which the kidneys experience irreversible loss of function. Hemodialysis is a process used by patients in an acute illness and requires short-term dialysis therapy or patients with kidney disease with terminal stages (End Stage Renal Desease). The hemodialysis process requires the installation of a device to get vascular access that will be connected to the hemodialysis machine. This action is called cannulation. The cannulation procedure causes damage to the skin layer and also the blood vessels. This condition causes damage to blood vessels. These conditions cause the release of chemical substances such as histamine and bradykinin which can stimulate pain, then there will be a nerve infusion that will be carried by peripheral nerve fibers until nerve transmission ends at the center of the brain so the individual will perceive pain in the cannulation area
Methods: The design used is a case study, to analyze the intervention of cold compresses in reducing the intensity of pain when insertion was carried out during two meetings, the first measurement at insertion without treatment, then the second measurement after treatment with 10 minutes of administration at 16ºc . Data retrieval techniques using Numeric Rating Scale (NRS).
Results: The results of the analysis showed the effect of cold ice compresses on the reduction in pain scale between before and after being given cold ice compresses.
Conclusion: Providing cold ice compresses can reduce the scale of pain in femoral cannulation insertion in patients with hemodialysis, nurses as health care providers can carry out this intervention and health education in the form of ice cold compresses
