Quiet sequences can reduce acoustic noise by modifying and optimizing gradient activity (Ott, 2015). Quiet sequence can reduce acoustic noise to 20%, but increase scanning time (Hagiyama, 2017). On MRI Brain examination FLAIR fat sequences have a long scanning time because they use long TI. The use of quiet sequences on FLAIR fat saturation causes the MRI acoustic noise to decrease but the scanning time will be longer, so movement is possible because the patient feels uncomfortable. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in information on anatomical images, find out better anatomical information, and find out the acoustic noise values of axial Brain MRI between the quiet T2 FLAIR fat saturation and T2 FLAIR fat saturation sequences.
The type of this research is quantitative research using pre-experiment approachment with static group comparison design. A research has been done in RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto on 10 volunteers. 3 Radiologists as respondents assessed image information using questionnaires. Cohen's Kappa test to know the interobserver reliability and data analysed by using Wilcoxon statistical test to know the difference of anatomical information of the resulting image.
There is no difference in anatomical information of axial Brain MRI images between quiet T2 FLAIR fat saturation sequence and T2 FLAIR fat saturation with a significance value of p-value of 1,000 (p> 0.05). This is because both sequences use the same parameters except in Time Echo (TE). Both sequences have the same anatomical information, with the same mean rank of 2.50. Quiet T2 FLAIR fat saturation produces acoustic noise at 68.75 dB and T2 FLAIR fat saturation at 81.25 dB. Quiet T2 FLAIR fat saturation reduces acoustic noise by 12.5 dB and can meet the standards of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency. Quiet T2 FLAIR fat saturation can improve patient comfort, but scanning time increases 16 seconds.
