Counselling Effectiveness Using Simulation Method and Group Discussion Method on Dental and Oral Health Knowledge of Gemulak Village Sayung Sub District Demak Regency Posyandu Cadre.

In Gemulak village, dental caries cases were found in 62 Family Card (Kartu Keluarga), 51% Family Card has poor dental hygiene. According on the interview done, health counselling is rarely held in Gemulak village. It is found that the village cadre’s knowledge about dental and oral hygiene is still low, causing the high complaints on that sector. One of the ways to improve the village cadre’s knowledge about dental and oral health is by giving counselling using the simulation method and group discussion method. This study aim to compare the effectiveness difference between both methods on Gemulak village Maternal & Child Health Centre (Posyandu) cadre.
This is a quantitative study. This method used in this study is the quasi experiment method with pretest and posttest grub design. 20 study subjects were being involved in this study and were divided into 2 groups. 10 cadres received simulation method counselling and the other 10 cadres received group discussion method counselling. The data were analyzed using paired-t-test and independent t-test.
The statistical test result using paired t-test shows meaningful difference with p value = 0,001 (< 0,05) on the simulation method and p value = 0,001 (< 0,05) on group discussion. Independent t-test show a meaningful difference between both methods with p value = 0,041 (< 0,05).
Based on the study, it can be concluded that the simulation method is more effective to improve the knowledge about dental and oral hygiene of the village’s posyandu.
