PENGARUH PENYULUHAN MENGGUNAKAN MEDIA LEAFLET TERHADAP TINDAKAN IBU HAMIL DALAM PENCEGAHAN KARIES

Pregnant women are susceptible/vulnerable to dental and oral health problems.A preliminary study of 94 pregnant women, who visited the dental section of Puskesmas Brati for an integrated examination, 68 sufferred from dental caries. Counseling,in various media, is a significant effort to improve the people’s oral and dental hygiene. Leaflets about oral and dental health of pregnant women is one of those counseling media. The purpose of this study is to portray the differences of actions for preventingdental caries between pregnant women who received the leaflets and those who did not at Puskesmas Brati.
This research uses quantitative method of a posttest-only designagainst a control group. Samples were selected using accidental sampling comprising 70 pregnant women who received an integrated antenatal care at Puskesmas Brati.The sample was divided into two groups:the treatment groupconsisting of 35 pregnant women and the control group with the same number of people. This research was conducted in April 2018 at Puskesmas Brati, in which the independent variable is the leaflet and the dependent variable is the action in dental caries prevention.
The results showed that the action scores of the treatment group were greater than that of the control group, i.e. the mean score of the treatment group was 12.5 (4.31 points greater than that of the control group) with a standard deviation of 2.94. It can be concluded from the researchthat there is a significant influence of giving leafletson pregnant women’s actions in dental caries prevention.
