The Effect of Anchovy Intake (Stolephorussp) on Mandible Bone Density in Rats with Ovary Dysfunctin: In Vivo
XMLIntroduction: Osteoporosis is very high in Indonesia, especially in menopause women. In menopause women, there is ovary dysfunction that causes estrogen deficiency level. This condition can cause calcium absorption interferesin intestines and decreasing of bone density. Biphosphonate and calcium therapy of osteoporosis can cause side effects. Anchovy intake is one of the best calcium intakes that suggests able to prevent osteoporosis. The aim of this study was to know effect of anchovy intake (Stolephorussp) on mandible bone density in rats with ovary dysfunction.
Methods: This study was a post test only experimental control group design. The number of sampel is 20 rats were divided into 4 groups: 1) rats without ovariectomy and anchovy intake (control group); 2) rats without ovariectomy and with anchovy intake; 3) rats with ovariectomy and without anchovy intake; and 4) rats with ovariectomy and anchovy intake. Anchovy intake was based on conversion dozes of human anchovy intake per day, twice a day, about 0,003 ml/ g BW for 30 days. On the 30th day, rats were euthanized and removed their mandibles. After that, the mandibles were undergone X-ray photo and examined the mandible bone density by densitometer. Mandible bone density was measured as absorbance value. and analyzed by analysis of variants
(Anova). Result: The result showed that rats with ovariectomy and without anchovy intake had the highest
absorbance value, and mandible bone density was a significant difference among the groups (p
